Grimsby Ice Factory on Screen
The Ice Factory has appeared in a number of documentaries and dramas over the years.
2010: This is England 1986 – the first episode's opening scene began with a shot of the loading pontoon in front of the Ice Factory which had apparantly been deleted from the original This is England movie. The same location was used in a subsequent episode of this this TV sequel.
2008: Mitch and Matt’s Big Fish - The fourth episode of this UKTV series developed with Young's seafood (seen on Good Food Channel and Dave) brings Mitch Tonks (founder of restaurant chain FishWorks) and rugby player and Celebrity Masterchef winner Matt Dawson to Grimsby Docks. The Ice Factory is used as an establishing shot, and after a tour of a fish processing unit, they pause beneath the Ice Conveyors to consider developments in the fishing industry.
2007: Atonement –
The end of the Dunkirk sequence was shot in and around the Ice Factory in August 2006. Night scenes of James McAvoy and Daniel Mays walking through the streets were shot at Parker Street and Gorton Street exteriors and inside the old Boiler House. Scenes of them taking shelter with other soldiers were shot inside (a deleted scene inside the Ice Factory, tracking past the machinery can be seen on the DVD).
